North Shore Athletics Club works closely with a sports program called “Be The Best Sport” to serve children with special needs. Its carefully adapted activities allow players to build skills in a nurturing, non-competitive environment. Be The Best Sport currently serves children with special needs, ages 3 – 14 years old. Professional coaches and dedicated volunteers help the children acquire athletic and social skills.
Our mission is to provide a fun, yet challenging environment in which children will develop both individual athletic skills and the important values of teamwork and social interaction. Our professional staff will accommodate to the unique needs of each child by providing 1-on-1 coaching in a supportive, structured environment.

Special Olympics Basketball Training
Our Special Olympics training program will provide year-round sports training and competition for children with intellectual disabilities. Through sports training, the athletes will have the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, build self-esteem, as well as build social skills and friendships with the other players on their team.
Our program is designed for two different age groups: Ages 8 & up.
Ages 8 & up: This program is designed for our older athletes and will continue to focus on developing motor skills and hand-eye coordination but athletes will have the chance to use these skills in a more competitive, game-situation environment. Athletes in our older program are eligible to participate and compete in the Special Olympic events and play against other teams in their division. The Special Olympics has over 32 Olympic-style sports and there are competitions for all of our athletes including team tournament games as well as skill competitions for individuals.
Current Programs:
We are currently running basketball training for our athletes. Our programs will run for 10 weeks per session. The main goal of these programs for our older athletes are to prepare them for several tournaments which will run in April, May, and June.
